More than 5,400 incidents of cyber attacks on Vietnamese systems in the first 5 months of the year
In May, the Information Security Department of the Ministry of Information And Communications recorded, warned and guided the handling of 847 cyber attacks that caused problems with information systems in Vietnam, bringing the total number of incidents in the first five months of the year to 5,463.
Assessing the situation of building e-Government in association with ensuring information security and cybersecurity, the Ministry of Information and Communications, the standing agency of the National Committee on Digital Transformation, said that in May 2022, the inspection, supervision, ensuring safety and cybersecurity for information systems serving the e-Government continued to be promoted.
According to statistics, in May, the National Cyber Security Monitoring Center (NCSC) under the Information Security Department, Ministry of Information and Communications recorded, warned and guided the handling of 847 cyber attacks causing problems with information systems in Vietnam; That’s down 9.7 percent from April.There were 161 phishing attacks, 226 deface attacks and 460 malware attacks.
Of the 5,463 incidents of cyber attacks on information systems in Vietnam in the first five months of 2022, the number of malicious attacks accounted for 68.7%.
Data from the Ministry of Information and Communications shows that in the first five months of this year, there were 5,463 cyber attacks causing problems with information systems in Vietnam, including 930 phishing, 776 Defaces and 3,757 malware attacks.
Notably, May continued to record a decrease in the number of cyber attack incidents on systems in Vietnam compared to the next month.Earlier, in April, the Ministry of Information and Communications recorded, warned and instructed to handle 938 cyber attacks causing problems with information systems in Vietnam; down 9.37% compared to March 2022.
According to experts of the Information Security Department, Ministry of Information and Communications, the reason for the decrease in the number of cyber attacks compared to the previous month is because the socio-economic situation is stable, the types of economic activities are reopened as before the Covid-19 epidemic, the Party’s solutions to manage and promote the economy, The government and local ministries and sectors have a lot of efficiency.
In addition, raising vigilance, strengthening cyberinformation security as well as security and social order are more focused.Therefore, the subjects also have more difficulty in attacking networks, spreading, infecting malicious code, scams to usurp and destroy information of users and organizations.
In order to ensure information security for information systems and for Vietnam’s cyberspace, the Ministry of Information and Communications will continue to strengthen the monitoring and proactive scanning; evaluate, statistics and promote propaganda and warning in the mass media so that users know and avoid the risk of cyber attacks.At the same time, continue to warn widely, urge the review of vulnerabilities, signs of cyber attack.
