RMIT cooperated with VNISA to organize the first seminar on improving information security awareness
On the morning of December 8 in Hanoi, RMIT University (Australia), in collaboration with the Vietnam Information Security Association (VNISA), organized the “Raising awareness of network safety and security” training program for about 50 information security and information technology officers from a number of organizations, businesses, VNISA members and partners, in order to contribute to improving the quality of information security human resources.

Attending the opening ceremony of the training class were Mr. Mark Tattersall, Deputy Head of Mission of Australian Embassy in Vietnam; Professor Matthew Warren, Director of RMIT University Center for Cyber Security Research and Innovation (CCSRI), Deputy Professor Pham Cong Hiep, in charge of RMIT’s Cyber Security Research and Innovation Center in Vietnam.
On VNISA’s side were Dr. Vu Quoc Khanh, Vice President of the Association and a number of Association office staff.
In his welcome speech, Deputy Head of Mission Mark Tattersall highly appreciated the cooperation between RMIT and VNISA in the exchange and cooperation program on information security in Vietnam, which contributed to raising awareness and skills in using secure networks for agencies, organizations and communities in Vietnam.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, VNISA Vice President Vu Quoc Khanh thanked the Australian Embassy in Vietnam and RMIT University for coordinating and creating favorable conditions for officials from VNISA’s member units and partners to interact, learn and share experiences with Australia cyber safety and security experts. In particular, in 2023, with the support of the Australian Government and RMIT, VNISA sent a delegation to Australia to exchange and learn with experts from CCSRI, the Australian Information Security Association, as well attending The largest annual event on cyber security and safety in Australia – the 2023 Australian Cyber Security Conference.

At the training session, Professor Matthew Warren, Director of CCSRI, shared with the students the concepts and importance of information security and network security; common threats and vulnerabilities which might affect information security of Australian organizations/businesses; practical strategies to protect organizations/businesses from the above threats, and promote awareness of improving information security for organizations/businesses.
Associate Professor Pham Cong Hiep, in charge of CCSRI in Vietnam
Associate Professor Pham Cong Hiep, currently in charge of CCSRI in Vietnam, presented a topic that is of interest to many organizations and businesses in Vietnam: Complying with Decree 13 on personal data protection to enhance culture and ability to ensure information security in organizations and businesses. The presentation content focused on clarifying the scope and subjects of Decree 13; point out the similarities and differences between Decree 13 and the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), thereby proposed activities that each organization/business needs to carry out to comply with Decree 13.
Discussion session with the topic “Information security for small and medium enterprises”
At the end of the training session was a discussion led by Associate Professor Pham Cong Hiep and the participation of experts including Dr. Vu Quoc Khanh, Vice President of VNISA; Professor Matthew Warren, Director of CCSRI; Mr. Richard Magalad, Managing Director of ITR Australia; Mr. Ngu Thai Ngoc Khiem, Deputy Director of IT Consulting Services, KPMG Company.

Experts shared problems in ensuring information security in general and complying with Decree 13 on personal data protection of small and medium-sized enterprises in Vietnam, as well as implementating experiences in Australia, which emphasizes awareness and responsibility to protect personal information.
